STONE FOR THE BACKYARD SHED
Almost every homeowner needs a backyard shed for the lawn mower, bicycles, gardening items, and miscellaneous kids outdoor toys. The cheap options include pre-fab metal sheds that you can go order at the local “big box” hardware stores. But, an opportunity to build a shed that is stronger, aesthetically more appealing, and increases property value (done right, of course). Stone is one of the two natural materials in construction that everybody loves (other being wood). How about a stone shed design?
SOME METHODS FOR STONE SHED DESIGN
- Stone panel application. Much like wood, vinyl, or a plywood style siding, there are many stone panel options available to be used. Erecting a typical stud framed skeleton structure and then applying cement board sheathing and the panel product of choice offers many beautiful options. LINK: Several Stone Panel Manufacturers
- Slip-form stone application. This method is a great option for you if you have a lot of stone on your property. Although the labor involved in building form work, and/ or addressing stone and mortar details is more, the result can be a very strong and quaint shed. LINK: Slip-form Stone Masonry
- Masonry-style application. This method would be akin to laying bricks of stone coarse by coarse as is typical in brick masonry construction.
